King Charles is unlikely to discuss the accusations against Thomas Markle Sr with Prince Harry because he fears any private conversation could later be made public, a royal commentator has said.
Last week it became public knowledge that accusations had been made against Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Markle Sr. The accusations claim that boxes of child sex abuse images were found in his old home in the Philippines. They were allegedly found by his son, Thomas Markle Jr, who reported the matter to the police and the FBI.
An investigation is now under way, but Thomas Sr denies the accusations and has called them "sick lies".
Meghan's statement on the accusations
Meghan Markle, Harry's wife, released a statement last week saying she found the accusations against her estranged father "distressing". She also said she had been given a copy of a letter that had been handed to the Met Police years ago, containing accusations against her father. The letter was believed to have been written by Thomas Sr's ex-wife, Roslyn Loveless.
Meghan said she was under the impression an investigation was underway into the accusations made in that letter. She also explained this was why she had kept her children away from her father and never allowed him to meet them.
As well as the latest accusations being difficult for Meghan, they will likely be difficult for Harry, who will be supporting his wife. It is believed the family were already out of the UK enjoying their October half-term together when the news broke.
Why the King may stay silent
While King Charles may want to comfort his youngest son during this difficult time, it is believed he won't for one reason. This is because the monarch may fear that conversations with his son will one day be made public, as has happened before.
Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield told Page Six that Charles is currently in a "difficult position" over the matter. She said: "As a father, he would like to offer Prince Harry emotional support during such a distressing situation.
"However, as monarch, he has to consider the potential consequences of any private conversation. The King would be reluctant to discuss such a sensitive matter without reassurance that their conversations would remain private."
The Royal Family has not commented on the accusations against Thomas Markle Sr. It is unlikely they will.
Thomas Markle Sr, who is currently in a care facility in the US after a leg amputation last year, denies all accusations against him. He has also denied sleeping with anyone under the age of 18.
