A former royal butler has disclosed what occurs behind closed doors after the Royal Family departs the Buckingham Palace balcony following their annual appearance for Trooping the Colour.
Annual Tradition
Each year, the Royal Family gathers on the Buckingham Palace balcony to watch the RAF flypast and wave to crowds below during Trooping the Colour, a ceremony marking the monarch's official birthday. Thousands of royal fans assemble outside the palace to witness this brief moment.
After the balcony appearance, which lasts only a few minutes, the royals wave goodbye and retreat inside the palace.
Private Celebrations
Grant Harrold, a former royal butler speaking on behalf of Genting Casino, explained that private celebrations begin with a lunch followed by tea and coffee. He stated: "After that, they return to the same room and get their drinks back. They then go off to lunch."
Harrold speculated that the lunch likely takes place in the Chinese Drawing Room, commonly used as a dining room for the family. He added: "They'll have a private lunch, finishing up with coffee and tea. Depending on other engagements, some royals may leave immediately after lunch, while others stay longer to converse in sitting rooms or drawing rooms on the private side of the palace."
Senior Royals in Attendance
All senior royals typically attend, including King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Princess Catherine.
