Most of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's current emails are being ignored by the Palace following their UK return, according to a royal expert. Journalist Charlotte Griffiths made the claim while speaking to Peter Cardwell on his TalkTV show, commenting on reports that Meghan was documenting all her interactions with her in-laws.
Palace 'incredibly guarded'
Griffiths said the behaviour sounded familiar, noting that when Meghan and Harry were part of the British royal family and living in the UK, there was a persistent rumour that Meghan was keeping a very detailed record of every single interaction, and that courtiers were terrified of this because they felt she was using it as a threat. She added that this time the record would be easy to keep because there isn't a lot of interaction.
"We're talking like the odd email exchange, the odd phone call here and there. Because I've spoken to the various people in the palace, and they are incredibly guarded," she said. "They said they receive more messages and emails and letters from Harry and Meghan than they respond to, and that sometimes they just completely ignore messages and emails from their team."
Lack of trust between Sussexes and Palace
Griffiths described both the Sussexes and Buckingham Palace as "incredibly guarded with one another" and said there is still not much in the way of trust between them, making it plausible that Meghan is keeping a catalogue of requests.
The Sussexes have reportedly been quietly documenting communications with members of the Firm, with a source claiming they are doing so for their own "protection". This follows a series of public developments involving Harry and the Royal Family, including a dispute over accommodation during his previous UK visit and a Palace statement making clear the Sussexes are no longer working members of the Royal Family.
Sussexes 'learned the hard way'
A source claimed Harry and Meghan have "learned the hard way" that they need to keep a record of what is said and agreed by members of the Royal Family. The insider told Closer: "Meghan and Harry don’t want to react to every problem, but they say they’ve learned the hard way that they need to keep a record of what’s being said and agreed to by people within The Firm, because the goal posts constantly change."
The source claimed the Sussexes deal with a number of people within the King's orbit and said there can be conflicting instructions from different members of staff. "There is so much going on behind the scenes. They've had some very tricky situations where one courtier has given them instructions, and another tells them to do the opposite, so they say they have no choice but to document everything the way they’re doing - it’s for their protection day-to-day."
