Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to return to the UK before the end of the month, and they have already completed a major task ahead of their move: securing a home. The couple, who have lived outside the UK for the past six years, are now expected to make Britain home again.
Securing a home outside London
While the exact location of their new property is unknown, it has been reported that they will not live in London. The pair, along with their two children, Princess Lilibet and Prince Archie, are expected to settle somewhere in the countryside. The Cotswolds and the Northampton area, which is close to the Spencer family estate, Althorp, could be where their new property lies.
The Sussexes will also keep their Montecito mansion in California, the luxury spot they have called home for the past few years.
Duration and status of the move
It is not known how long they plan to stay in the UK, but they are expecting to be calling it home for what has been described as “an extended period of time”. There will be no change to the Sussexes’ role and status as private individuals and non-working members of the Royal Family.
Senior royal correspondent at the BBC, Daniela Relph, says the couple are “experts at surprise”.
King Charles informed of the move
King Charles was reportedly first made aware of the move on Sunday, only three days before it was made public. It is understood that the king would welcome the opportunity to see more of the family both in a private and personal capacity.
Prince Harry arrived in the UK for a five-day visit just last month, mainly to mark the one-year-to-go event for the Invictus Games in Birmingham. During that visit, King Charles met with Prince Harry at Highgrove House along with Queen Camilla, Meghan Markle, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. This marked the first time the king has seen his grandchildren in four years.
