Lip Reader Exposes Andrew's 'Desperate' Funeral Plea to William
A forensic lip reader has provided startling new details about an awkward exchange between Prince Andrew and Prince William at the Duchess of Kent's funeral last September. The analysis reveals what is described as a "desperate" plea from the disgraced former royal before he was completely ignored by the Prince of Wales.
The Tense Moment Outside Westminster Cathedral
The incident occurred outside Westminster Cathedral following the funeral service, where Andrew attempted to catch William's attention. According to the lip reader's interpretation, Andrew approached William, who was standing with his wife Kate, and uttered words to the effect of: "I've learnt from what I've done but before I forget, and if I can, I'd like to ask you if you can forgive?"
William's response was unequivocal. He gave Andrew the cold shoulder, turning away and looking straight ahead without acknowledging his uncle. This moment has been widely interpreted as symbolic of the ongoing efforts by William and King Charles to distance the monarchy from Andrew, which ultimately led to him being stripped of his titles and ordered to leave Royal Lodge just two months later.
Further Awkward Interactions and Context
The funeral was marked by several uncomfortable moments involving Andrew:
- After the ceremony, Andrew was seen chuckling while sharing a joke with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.
- He also broke into laughter while standing next to William, who appeared visibly uncomfortable and embarrassed by the situation.
These revelations come amid reports that Andrew was preparing to travel to the Middle East when he was arrested last month on suspicion of misconduct in a public office. Sources indicate he was hoping to visit either Bahrain or Abu Dhabi in an attempt to reinvent himself, but an urgent tip-off to a senior courtier led to his arrest in February.
Travel Plans Thwarted by Regional Conflict
Both Andrew and Sarah Ferguson have connections in the Middle East and were believed to be planning trips to the region. However, the ongoing war across the Gulf has effectively put an end to any immediate travel plans.
A source familiar with the situation stated: "There is no way any of them are going to go to the Gulf and Middle East region for a long time to come. It is far too dangerous for them, just as it is for everybody else."
A British diplomatic insider previously acquainted with the pair during their earlier visits to the region added: "It's inconceivable that they'll be visiting the region now, certainly not whilst the war is going on and it could, of course, be an indefinite war."
The lip reading analysis was featured in Channel 5's new programme, "Lip-Reading the Royals: The Secret Conversations," presented by expert Nicola Hickling. This insight provides a rare glimpse into the private tensions within the royal family, highlighting the continued fallout from Andrew's controversies and his strained relationship with senior working royals.
