Peter Wright and Julian Norton, beloved stars of Channel 5's The Yorkshire Vet, have disclosed the real reasons behind their departure from Skeldale Veterinary Centre in Thirsk. The duo, who became firm favourites since the show launched in 2015, left the practice in 2021 after a takeover by Medivet.
Peter Wright, who had worked at Skeldale for 40 years, relocated to Grace Lane Vets in Kirbymoorside. He explained that the acquisition made it economically unviable to continue his passion for mixed practice, which involved treating everything from cows and horses to hamsters. 'To take the farm side away from me, it had to stop because it wasn't economically viable anymore,' he told Express.co.uk.
Julian Norton also left the practice some years earlier, citing that the move towards Medivet was not the direction he envisioned. 'It was a difficult decision, it was a big part of my life, it was a big change,' he added.
Despite leaving Skeldale, both vets continue to feature on The Yorkshire Vet. Last month, a new episode showed Peter performing a difficult emergency surgery. However, Peter revealed that they rarely cross paths with co-stars due to being spread across Yorkshire. 'We are all over Yorkshire working away but we are pretty much working independently of each other,' he said.
