The Traitors contestant Harriet Tyce has paid an emotional tribute to her close friend, the late journalist Sarah Hughes, following her dramatic exit from the BBC show. Tyce, a criminal barrister who was banished after sacrificing herself in a tense breakfast scene, took to social media to reflect on her experience and express how much she missed her friend.
In a post marking a viral trend comparing her life in 2016 to now, Tyce shared a photo with Hughes, who died from breast cancer in 2021 at age 48. She wrote: “I don’t know what she’d make of my foolhardy foray into TV, which has resulted in the incredible experience I’m having so far in #2026, but I have a hunch she’d have live-blogged the whole thing, cheered me on, and taken the piss out of me relentlessly.”
Fans rallied around Tyce, with one commenting: “I think she would have loved it. Such a loss.” Another said: “I'm sure she'd be really proud of you right now!” Hughes, who wrote for several British national newspapers, was remembered for her work, including a popular Game of Thrones blog.
Tyce had previously revealed that if she had won the prize money, she would have donated it to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, as many friends have been affected by the disease. She said: “One of my best friends who sadly died in 2021 from secondary breast cancer.”
After her banishment, Tyce thanked fans in an Instagram statement, saying she felt “horrified” at how it played out but was glad she left on her own terms. She added: “I was never fit to be Prime Minister, but I appreciate the fact that you thought that I might have got further.”
