Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green confronted a fan during Sunday night's road victory over the New Orleans Pelicans after the fan taunted him with chants of 'Angel Reese,' a WNBA player known for rebounding. The fan, identified as Sam Green, 35, of New Orleans, was seated courtside and began the taunts after Green was called for a shooting foul.
Green walked over to the fan and stood inches from him, engaging in a brief exchange before game officials and ushers intervened. Sam Green claimed that Green swore at him and threatened to punch him if he continued the taunts. The fan was given a warning but allowed to remain in his seat.
In his postgame comments, Green said the fan had called him 'a woman's name' and added: 'It was a good joke at first, but you can't keep calling me a woman. I got four kids, one on the way. You can't keep calling me a woman.' He noted that the fan stopped talking when he got closer.
Green has a history of fines for fan interactions, including a $25,000 fine in 2022 for directing obscene language toward a fan. He has previously criticised crowd behaviour, arguing that fans face few consequences for taunting players. Warriors coach Steve Kerr said it was fine for a player to have a discussion as long as it does not escalate, but wished security had intervened earlier.
