Viewers of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! have been given a surprising glimpse into the past of finalist Tom Read Wilson, after old footage of a previous reality TV appearance resurfaced online.
The Voice Audition That Didn't Turn Chairs
Long before he entered the Australian jungle, Tom Read Wilson tried his luck on the BBC's singing competition, The Voice, in 2016. Then aged 28, the now Celebs Go Dating star took to the blind auditions stage to perform the classic tune 'Accentuate the Positive'.
His theatrical performance brought smiles to the judges' panel, which included Paloma Faith, Will.i.am, Ricky Wilson, and Boy George – who would later become a jungle campmate himself in 2022. Despite his energetic effort, none of the four judges turned their chairs to select him for their teams.
Judges' Hilarious Reactions to a 'Cultural Throwback'
The audition, however, left a lasting impression. Will.i.am joked that he thought he was listening to an 85-year-old man, while Paloma Faith sarcastically remarked she never would have guessed his musical theatre background. Tom described himself as a "cultural throwback" during the segment.
Will.i.am amusingly suggested his demeanour would have made him great friends with Michael Jackson. Boy George even proposed an alternative career path, telling Tom: "I feel like you should read the news or something. Or the Tube, you know the Tube? 'Next stop,' can you do it for us?"
Reflecting on the experience, Tom said he "loved it" and felt like he was "surfing a crest of a great wave", adding that he "couldn't trade it for anything".
From Reality TV Hopeful to Jungle Favourite
This was far from Tom's only foray onto television screens. Over the years he has built a solid career appearing on shows like Strictly's It Takes Two, Love Island: Aftersun, The Wheel, Celebrity Mastermind, and Celebrity Best Home Cook.
His unique, well-spoken voice was recently addressed by his sister, Miranda, during an appearance on ITV's Lorraine. She revealed their father was an English teacher and that Tom has "always grown up loving language", speaking in his distinctive way "literally since he was two".
She also shared her brother's ambition to move into TV presenting, stating: "He would love to do some more presenting. I think he'd be great at that... I'd love it if he had a chat show."
Tom Read Wilson is currently captivating the nation as one of the final four contestants in the 2025 series of I'm A Celebrity, proving that his reality TV journey is far from over.
