Thousands of holidaymakers were filmed queuing at 6:30am on the Greek island of Santorini to take a photo in front of the iconic blue dome, a scene that has sparked criticism online.
Brit Tayyba Adeel, who woke up early to capture a cinematic sunrise picture, found herself in a long line of tourists with the same idea. The queue stretched through the streets of the island, known for its whitewashed cave houses, blue-domed churches, and vibrant sunsets.
Tourist numbers and queues
Santorini sees around 3.4 million visitors every year, with the sheer volume of travellers creating long waits for the perfect holiday photo. Tayyba's video of the queue, posted online, has racked up over 110,000 views.
In the clip, she walks along the line, which she says contained 'thousands' of tourists. Among those waiting was a woman in a wedding dress with her photographer, patiently sitting for her turn.
Online reaction
The footage drew sharp comments from viewers. One said: "I'd be p*ssed if this was outside my home or rental." Another commented: "What a waste of a holiday." A third added: "People are so embarrassing."
Another viewer remarked: "This makes me never want to go to Santorini. Why do people just ruin everything for likes on social media." One person asked: "Surely there's a better way to spend your time on holiday than that?"
Tayyaba herself said: "The famous Santorini blue dome photo spot at 6:30am. The whole internet got the same travel tip. Social media ruined it (Santorini). You only see people without noticing the beauty of the place."
