The Voice UK returned to ITV1 on Saturday night, and viewers were quick to celebrate the addition of Kelly Rowland to the coaching panel. The Destiny's Child star joins established mentors Tom Jones, Will.i.am, Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones, replacing LeAnn Rimes.
Ahead of the first episode, Kelly said: "I am excited to join The Voice UK as a coach, and am looking forward to working with the excellent and passionate coaches the show is known for. I can't wait to hear all the new talent and to go to battle for my team. Let's go!"
Fans react to Kelly Rowland's debut
Within minutes of the show opening, fans took to social media to support her. One remarked: "I remember when Kelly Rowland was an X factor judge. She really is having her full circle moment (clapping emoji)."
A second said: "Kelly will be brilliant #thevoiceuk." A third viewer added: "They got Kelly Rowland on the panel and for the first time in 15 years DIDN'T open the series with a coaches performance?! Fire the producers #TheVoiceUK."
First act chooses Kelly
It wasn't long before Kelly landed her first act. Singer Monique chose to go with her despite all the other members of the panel turning their chairs for her and then attempting to woo her by singing for her.
One fan said: "Monique has picked Kelly!" Another posted: "They all sang for her and she still went with Kelly who gave an incredible speech."
New twist: The Rewind Button
This year's series, hosted by Emma Willis, also features a twist - the Rewind Button. With just eight spots up for grabs on each team, the coaches must deliberate carefully as they hunt for Britain's most thrilling vocal talent. The Rewind Button offers them the opportunity to reclaim an artist they regret passing over.
This means one coach will be granted the chance during the Blind Auditions to reconsider their decision regarding an act that has departed the stage without a single chair turn. Ahead of the premiere episode, ITV revealed: "If a coach realises they have made a mistake, they can hit Rewind, bring the act back, and offer them a place on their team. However, with only one Rewind available to each coach, they must choose their moment wisely. For an act who thought their journey was over, it could change everything."
The Voice UK airs on ITV1 on Saturdays and is available on ITVX, as well as STV and STV Player.
