Taraji P. Henson has finally revealed the true reason behind her sudden exit from CBS's Person of Interest. In a recent interview, the actress admitted she was creatively unfulfilled despite earning the highest salary of her career at the time.
Speaking to Variety alongside Ellen Pompeo, Henson said she prayed for guidance before calling the show's producer to leave. 'I walked away, not even knowing where I was going,' she recalled. Two weeks after her final episode aired, she starred in a play in Pasadena, California, which helped her fall back in love with acting.
Henson's character, Detective Joss Carter, was killed off in November 2013, shocking fans. However, Henson maintained that the exit was planned. She learned of the decision on Valentine's Day 2013 and stressed there was no falling out with the production team.
The actress also revealed that the tears in Carter's eyes after a kiss from John Reese were genuine, as she knew her time on the show was ending. Executive producer Jonah Nolan confirmed that Henson had been aware of the possibility from the start, adding that the show had promised actors they would not be kept spinning their wheels for 200 episodes.
