Strictly Shock: Hasselbaink First Celebrity Eliminated

In a dramatic turn of events that sent shockwaves through the ballroom, former football star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and his professional partner Jowita Przystał became the first casualties of Strictly Come Dancing 2024 during Sunday's emotional results show.

The ex-Chelsea striker, who had performed a spirited Cha Cha Cha to 'Uptown Funk' by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars, found himself in the dreaded dance-off against comedian Chris McCausland and his partner Dianne Buswell.

The Tense Dance-Off Decider

Both couples gave their all when they reprised their routines in a bid to impress the judges and secure their place in the competition. However, the decision proved unanimous among the judging panel.

Head Judge Shirley Ballas led the verdict, explaining: "Well, based on the better footwork, timing and performance value, the couple I would like to save is Chris and Dianne."

Her decision was swiftly backed by fellow judges Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke, sealing the football legend's fate and ending his Strictly journey far sooner than many had anticipated.

Emotional Farewell to the Ballroom

Reflecting on his whirlwind Strictly experience, Hasselbaink told host Tess Daly: "It's been amazing. I've had the best time. I've met an amazing teacher who's just so positive, so good."

The 52-year-old sports pundit paid heartfelt tribute to his professional partner, adding: "She's just been so good for me, so patient. I just want to say thank you to her. I want to say thank you to everybody that has voted for me. Thank you to the judges for their comments. It's been amazing."

Polish dancer Jowita Przystał, who won Strictly in 2022 with Hamza Yassin, reciprocated the warm sentiments, describing her partner as "an absolute joy to work with."

"You are one of the most positive people I've ever met," she continued. "You just brighten up my day every single day. You've been working so hard and I'm just so proud of you. Thank you for being the best student and the best partner ever."

What's Next for the Competition?

The elimination comes after Saturday night's live show where the remaining celebrities delivered spectacular performances, setting the bar high for the weeks to come. With Hasselbaink's departure, the competition intensifies as fifteen couples remain in the hunt for the coveted Glitterball Trophy.

Strictly Come Dancing continues next Saturday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, promising more breathtaking routines, surprising twists, and the magic that has made the show a national treasure.
