Strictly Come Dancing fans have been left divided after another major change was made to the BBC dance competition without warning. The series faced backlash when it introduced a trio of new hosts to replace Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, along with axing several of its pro dancers and completely revamping the format of spin-off show It Takes Two.
Now another change has been implemented, and over on Reddit, eagle-eyed users noticed that the format of the post-routine reaction from the couples, posted to social media, has also faced changes. Whereas in previous series of Strictly, the couples would gather in a sparkly room to film a short clip debriefing each other on their dance floor stint, now the couples are simply rushed off the dance floor to film their reaction on set.
Fans split over new reaction format
Viewers couldn't decide which they preferred, with one Reddit user writing: "Did anyone notice this change? Post-dance reaction format has changed. I'm really torn on the change. I do miss the old one, but I also like the authentic vibe of the current one…"
Someone else echoed: "Nothing beats the post-dance reactions in the early series when they used to run out of the doors into the foyer at Television Centre. That building was iconic!"
Criticism over shorter clips
A third said: "The new format is significantly less informative than the old. The clips are much shorter, and are also coming out disjointed from the dances themselves, later on in the night. I don't mind change, but I would still like the info the old format gave…"
Another social media user penned: "I think they have felt less authentic last year also. Shorter last year and something was weird. "It's been a few years since it felt natural from both the pro and the celeb – I think they became too self-conscious in recent years. This seems almost staged."
