Netflix fans are questioning the streamer's apparent choice for a Lincoln Lawyer spin-off, as the main series prepares to end. According to reports from Variety and Deadline, the spin-off will focus on Cobie Smulders' character, Artemisia 'Emi' Finch, who was introduced in the season 4 finale. Smulders, known for roles in How I Met Your Mother and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is set to play a larger role in the upcoming fifth season.
Fans suggest alternative characters
While some fans are open to expanding the franchise, many believe the wrong character has been selected. On Reddit, several viewers suggested Neve Campbell, who plays Mickey Haller's ex-wife and fellow lawyer, should lead a new show. One fan posted: "If they absolutely had to have a new series with a white woman leading, the phenomenal Neve Campbell is right there." Another added: "I don't know if I'm the only one, but I would have loved a Maggie spin-off." A third replied: "You are not the only one..I need more Maggie/Neve Campbell in my life." Others proposed a different option, saying: "I'd love a Sisco spinoff, could focus on his origin story."
Spin-off details and source material
The Lincoln Lawyer is based on Michael Connelly's novel series. In the books, the protagonist has a half-brother, Harry Bosch, who stars in his own book series and a Prime Video adaptation. Netflix could not use Bosch, so they created a new character instead. Deadline reports the spin-off is being written by the same creative team as the main show and is being fast-tracked, though it has not received an official green light. The series has a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes since its 2022 debut, with fans calling it 'addictive', 'flawless', and 'one of the best shows ever'.
The final season is based on the penultimate novel in the series, skipping several books, including the first, which inspired the 2011 film. The Daily Mirror has contacted Netflix for comment. The Lincoln Lawyer is currently streaming on Netflix.
