Meghan Markle made a special request during her appearance on MasterChef Australia: she asked to be called just 'Meghan' rather than 'Duchess of Sussex'. The Duchess of Sussex appeared on the cooking show on Sunday, where contestants were challenged to create a dish 'fit for a duchess'.
Four-Word Request
The episode was filmed during Meghan and Prince Harry's week-long trip to Australia in April. Meghan joined judges Poh Ling Yeow, Sofia Levin and Jean-Christophe Novelli. Yeow introduced her saying: 'We've had royalty in the MasterChef kitchen before, but no one like this. All the way from sunny California, please welcome to MasterChef Australia, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.'
When asked how she would like to be addressed, Meghan replied with a four-word remark: 'Oh, call me Meghan. Absolutely, yeah.'
Praise and Family Talk
During the episode, Meghan praised contestant Aaron Kher's dish but joked it had 'too much' spice for Harry. Harry greeted the group with a 'G'Day' over the phone, prompting Meghan to say: 'He's a charmer, isn't he?'
Talking about cooking for her family, Meghan said she had 'a lot of palates to appease' and that her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are 'great eaters' who enjoy Brussels sprouts. 'The kids jump in a lot, especially with the garden,' she said, describing how the family often prepares food together. 'Family time, I think, is really key to connect through food, so as many meals as we can do together, we always do.'
She noted that her husband's British upbringing meant he preferred 'meat, potatoes and cream sauce' while she, being Californian-born, favoured grilled meats, fish and citrus.
