Married At First Sight Australia's Scott McCristal has revealed that his wife Gia Fleur made 'toxic' comments off-camera during Homestays Week, leaving him feeling 'broken'. The 33-year-old businessman brought Gia, 35, to his $1.9m waterfront property on the Gold Coast, but she criticised it as 'too messy' and 'too small'. Viewers saw her on-screen insults, but Scott claims worse was said when cameras were not rolling.
Speaking to nine.com.au, Scott said: 'She pointed out a lot more problems when the cameras weren't there. When someone tries to degrade you like that it makes you feel pretty sh*t.' He added that he built his businesses himself and was proud of his home, but Gia's comments were damaging.
The couple had been strong earlier in the experiment, getting matching tattoos and planning a future. However, Homestays Week marked a turning point. Scott told producers: 'I can't move in with her yet... I need to see her behaviours change because I don't like the toxicity she brought to my environment.'
Scott also told TV WEEK that he felt like 'a bit of a mess' and that nothing he did was enough for Gia, who he claimed wanted gifts and treats daily. He said: 'It's very hard to manage someone like herself that wants to be treated with gifts every day of the week – especially if you're not getting that in return.'
Gia has denied the allegations, telling WHO that Scott 'never voiced any of these things' and that he 'gaslit' her. She said she felt 'blindsided' by his claims, as he constantly reassured her they were fine.
