Former The Bachelor contestant and Christian influencer Madi Prewett has ignited a fierce online debate after describing herself as a devotedly "submissive wife" to her husband, Grant Troutt.
Podcast Remarks Draw Swift Criticism
The 29-year-old, who rose to fame on Peter Weber's 2020 season of the reality show, made the remarks during the latest episode of her podcast, Stay True. While offering marriage advice, Prewett stated, "I learned a lot about being a submissive wife, it was a challenge for me at first. Now, it's, like, my favourite thing. I love talking about submission."
Her husband, Grant Troutt, who appeared alongside her, framed the dynamic in terms of leadership. He referred to the biblical book of Ephesians as a "blueprint for marriage," stating, "the man is the leader and it's not a dictatorship... It's this covering of 'I got you'." He recalled his wife telling him, "I follow you as you follow Christ."
Social Media Backlash Erupts
The comments were met with immediate disapproval from many social media users. Reactions on platform X ranged from concern to outright mockery.
One user simply wrote, "Yikes," while another declared, "May this life never find me." A third made a pointed cultural reference, commenting, "What in the Handmaid's Tale."
Several comments also referenced Barbara Weber, the mother of Prewett's former suitor Peter Weber, who famously expressed disapproval of Madi during the show's finale. "Barb was right all along," one person posted.
From Reality TV to Marriage and Motherhood
Madi Prewett has been vocal about her strong Christian faith since her time on The Bachelor. After her brief relationship with pilot Peter Weber ended, she began dating Grant Troutt, the son of a billionaire businessman.
The couple got engaged in August 2022 after less than a year of dating and married in Texas just two months later. They now have a baby daughter, Hosanna Rose Troutt.
The Daily Mail has approached Prewett's representative for comment.
