The Great American Baking Show, the US adaptation of The Great British Bake Off, has been cancelled by streaming service Roku after four series, according to Broadcast.
Show's History and Format
The show, which features judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, first aired on ABC in 2015 before moving to Roku in 2022. Like its UK counterpart, it sees amateur bakers compete in a series of challenges to be crowned the best baker.
The programme was presented by Casey Wilson and Andrew Rannells, with Prue and Paul on judging duty. Roku and Love Productions have been contacted for comment.
Fan Reactions
The series was popular with viewers, with one fan posting on IMDb.com: "As fluffy and sweet as its bakers' treats - replicates the British show's format without feeling like a knock-off."
They continued: "I love how wholesome the energy in the tent is throughout the show. Even in the midst of heated competition, the bakers smile and encourage each other."
Another viewer said: "The same show you love but American. The show has everything you'd expect from bake off - Paul nit-picking, Prue being generally delightful, comedic hosts and some baking as well... The bakes are slightly different from the UK version but still interesting and challenging."
Prue Leith's Departure from UK Show
Earlier this year, Prue announced she was leaving The Great British Bake Off, which airs on Channel 4 in the UK. She told fans on Instagram: "Bake Off has been a fabulous part of my life for the last nine years, I have genuinely loved it... But now feels like the right time to step back (I'm 86 for goodness sake!), there's so much I'd like to do, not least spend summers enjoying my garden."
Nigella Lawson is set to take over her role in the UK series. The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 in the UK.
