The cherished Malone family, a staple of Channel 4's hit show Gogglebox, have opened their hearts and their sofa to a brand new four-legged member, introducing rescue puppy Buddy to the nation.
A Fresh Paw on the Sofa
Viewers of the show's 26th series, which premiered last year, were treated to the adorable debut in the episode that aired on Thursday, 1st January 2026. The moment unfolded as Tom Malone Sr, his wife Julie, and son Shaun were joined by their granddaughter, Saoirse.
In a heart-warming scene, Tom spotted the new arrival and asked, "Who have we got here?" The camera then panned to the playful pup. Tom immediately christened him, exclaiming, "Buddy! Is he your new doggie? Have you rescued him from the pound?" to which Saoirse confirmed, "Yeah."
With the family's trademark humour, Tom then quipped to the energetic puppy, "We got this again have we? We got another nutcase in the house haven't we? All right buddy are you the nutcase of the house now?!"
A Family Healing From Heartbreak
The arrival of Buddy marks a new chapter for the family, who have endured significant pet bereavement in recent years. The Malones, who first appeared on Gogglebox in 2014 with Tom Sr, Julie, and sons Shaun and Tom Jnr, are renowned for their gang of Rottweilers.
However, they have faced the devastating loss of several beloved dogs. Their dog Frank died in 2018, Lucy passed away in 2022, and Dave died in 2023. The most recent blow came in June 2024, when their dog Bob died.
Son Shaun announced Bob's passing on Instagram, writing, "Today is the day we had to say goodbye to big Bob, an absolutely great dog like a big cuddly bear." Mum Julie shared a poignant tribute, stating Bob spent his last day "watching over the Grandchildren playing in the garden" and that the family were "heartbroken."
Continuing a Gogglebox Legacy
Despite the departure of son Tom Jnr from the show in 2021, the core family unit has remained a firm favourite with fans for over a decade. Their hilarious commentary and authentic family dynamic have cemented their status as Gogglebox icons.
The introduction of Buddy ensures the tradition of the Malone family sofa being shared with canine companions continues. It brings a wave of joy and fresh energy to the household after a period of sadness, much to the delight of their loyal viewers.
Gogglebox continues to air on Channel 4, typically every Friday at 9pm.
