Gogglebox personality Amy Tapper has spoken out about the persistent online abuse she continues to face, despite her successful and very public seven-stone weight loss.
The Transformation and the Backlash
Amy Tapper, 26, detailed her journey to losing seven stone, a process that took 12 years and was finally achieved with the support of a personal trainer and the weight-loss medication Mounjaro. However, instead of receiving universal praise for her achievement, the television star found that the online abuse intensified after her significant transformation.
Speaking Out on National Television
Appearing on ITV's Good Morning Britain, Ms Tapper confronted her critics head-on. She stated that the relentless online criticism does affect her, emphasising that "no one is superhuman" when it comes to dealing with such negativity. She highlighted the frustrating and contradictory nature of the trolling, pointing out a glaring double standard.
"You're doomed if you do and doomed if you don't," she concluded, explaining that trolls would simultaneously tell her to "eat less, move more" while also criticising the methods she used to actually achieve that very goal.
The Psychological Toll of Trolling
The Gogglebox star attributed much of the abuse to jealousy but made it clear that this does little to lessen its impact. Her candid discussion sheds light on the difficult reality that public figures face, even when sharing positive personal milestones. Her experience underscores a pervasive issue within online culture, where success can sometimes attract a wave of negativity rather than support.
