Former Love Island star Gemma Owen has downplayed her reality TV history in her family's new Prime Video documentary, Meet the Owens. The 23-year-old takes centre stage in the six-part series, which explores her father Michael Owen's horse racing business.
Fans of the ITV dating show will remember Gemma from the 2022 summer series, where she finished in second place alongside former partner Luca Bish. At just 19 at the time, she became a talking point when viewers learned she is the daughter of ex-England footballer Michael Owen.
Family fame and a career rethink
In the documentary, Michael admits Gemma sometimes outshines him in fame. He says: "There have been a handful of occasions whereby people have said 'That's Gemma Owen's dad over there.'"
However, the former Islander has had a rethink about her career path. In the first episode, Gemma says: "I was on a well-known television programme. Such a big show with such a big audience. It was a brilliant platform." She adds: "I wanna do something else."
Racing and equestrian focus
Gemma has since shifted her focus to presenting and equestrian pursuits. "I'd love to do more in the racing space," she reveals. "But my background is dressage. I've competed internationally for Great Britain in the Under 16s and Under 18s."
Her adult sporting career is already reaching impressive heights. She recently took part in the 2026 Markel Magnolia Cup, finishing in fourth place.

The show also features Michael, his wife Louise, and their three other children: James, Emily and Jessica. A synopsis for the series teases: "Since retiring from a Ballon d'Or-winning football career, Michael Owen has built a horse racing business to compete at the biggest events in the world, but running a successful racing operation has never been more challenging."
