Love Island's latest episode has triggered a record 24,763 complaints to Ofcom, following a heated confrontation between Faye Winter and Teddy Soares. The broadcasting regulator confirmed it is assessing the complaints before deciding on a potential investigation.
The row erupted after a challenge showed Teddy telling another contestant, Clarisse Juliette, that he was attracted to her and considered himself "technically single" during Casa Amor week. Despite not acting on his remarks, the footage prompted an outburst from Faye, who has admitted to trust issues.
Ofcom noted the "vast majority" of complaints related to the Movie Night challenge and its fallout. Critics questioned the show's production values, with some suggesting producers had escalated tensions. Faye's family later urged viewers to remember the show is "highly edited" and called for restraint from social media users.
The couple reconciled on Tuesday, with Faye apologising for her language and tone. The episode attracted six times more complaints than any previous episode this series. ITV has since introduced revised duty of care protocols, including training on handling social media negativity.
