Serena Sugden could be keeping a huge secret in Emmerdale, as fans speculate she may have a hidden connection to the late Dr Caitlin Todd.
Serena's Arrival and Secrets
Newcomer Serena (played by Casey Al-Shaqsy) first appeared on our screens in June, when she helped a distressed Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) down by the lake. The pair bonded, with Charity opening up about baby Leyla's true parentage and Dr Caitlin Todd's (Caroline Harker) blackmail and sexual assault.
After helping Charity work through her emotions, Serena headed to the village to reunite with her long-lost cousin, Robert (Ryan Hawley). She is currently living with Robert and his fiancé, Aaron Dingle, at Butler's Farm. She has been helping out at both the farm and The Woolpack, and has also been keeping secrets.
The former police officer has notably been seen sneaking around Home Farm, even stealing a USB stick belonging to Kim Tate (Claire King).
Dr Todd's Death and Serena's Involvement
ITV soap viewers will know that Sarah accidentally killed the villain last week, after pushing her towards the front door at Jacobs Fold. Todd tripped on a rug and slammed her head against the corner of a table, before dying on the floor from the head wound.
Serena walked in shortly after the accident and helped Charity and Sarah understand how to handle the authorities. She used Todd's lifeless hand to scratch Charity's arm, fabricating physical evidence of a struggle. Serena then left the scene before the police arrived, urging Sarah and Charity to keep her name out of the investigation.
Fan Theories on Serena's Connection
Now, several soap fans believe that Serena wants to distance herself from the crime due to a hidden connection between herself and Dr Todd. A number of Emmerdale viewers believe that Serena could be withholding her true identity, and it could spell trouble going forward.
One person wrote on a Facebook fan page: "Tell me if I'm wrong, BUT I think Serena might have been the other lady who Todd raped and she's finding out all the gossip." Another suggested: "I think Todd is Serena's mum."
A third fan said: "I wonder if Serena was the other female raped by Todd and is in the village for revenge." Someone else commented: "There could always be more."
Charity Takes the Blame
Charity and Sarah were questioned by the police on Tuesday (August 12), with Sarah eventually being allowed to return home as Charity took the blame. As she prepared to remain in custody overnight, Charity reassured her granddaughter: "You've got to stay strong."
Emmerdale airs weekday nights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
