EastEnders has confirmed the culprit after Joel Marshall was brutally attacked with a hammer. In a shocking twist, Amy Mitchell (Ellie Dadd) confessed to the attack during Thursday's (August 13) episode, now streaming on BBC iPlayer.
Amy's confession
After weeks of speculation, Amy admitted to DC Craig Ingram (Matthew James-Bailey) that she returned to the scene after Lily (Lilia Turner) had unlocked Joel (Max Murray) from the railing. She said: "He was mocking me and trying to get in my head… so I grabbed the hammer. It was me. I hit him."
Amy had earlier admitted it was her idea to tie Joel up, but the confession came after she was seen swigging from a bottle of vodka and bumping into Craig, who informed her he needed to log the incriminating video of Joel or risk losing his job.
Aftermath and suspicion
The attack occurred when Joel was locked to a railing and had alcohol poured over him by a group of local teenagers. When Will Mitchell (Freddie Phillips) demanded Joel be released, the group found him unconscious with a serious head injury. Amy, Denzel (Jaden Ladega), Nugget (Juhaim Rasul Choudhury), and Ricky (Frankie Day), alongside a reluctant Lily and Barney (Lewis Bridgeman), all started pointing the finger at one another.
Earlier this week, Lily confessed to releasing Joel, and the bike lock used to tie his hands belonged to Ricky. Denzel and Avani later confessed to sneaking off together, ruling them out. Ricky suggested Nugget might be responsible, but when he promised to protect Amy if she was the culprit, Amy was furious. Avani told DC Ingram about her and Denzel's movements, supported by her mum Priya (Sophie Khan Levy).
What happens next?
Amy tried to update her dad Jack (Scott Maslen) on Avani and Denzel's betrayal, but he snapped at her, as his partner Denise (Diane Parish) struggles with her cancer treatment.
