Call the Midwife and EastEnders Star Appears in Emmerdale as Cadet Commander
EastEnders and Call the Midwife Star Joins Emmerdale

Emmerdale introduced a new character on Monday evening as Kyle Winchester joined the cadets. The troubled teenager, played by Huey Quinn, was formally accepted into the cadets after struggling with his father Cain Dingle's prostate cancer diagnosis.

Kyle's Journey to the Cadets

Fans of the ITV soap will recall that Kyle had been secretly lighting fires at Robert Sugden's farm as he coped with his dad's illness. Graham Foster caught the boy and encouraged him to find a new focus, signing him up for the cadets. On Monday, June 15, Kyle was overjoyed when his father arrived to watch his swearing-in ceremony. However, Cain quickly disappeared after a toileting accident following his operation. Later, Cain returned and confessed about the mishap, leaving him embarrassed.

Cadet Commander Played by Familiar Face

The Cadet Commander, portrayed by James McGregor, may be recognizable to viewers. McGregor has previously appeared in Emmerdale and other popular shows. In 2025, he played copper Matteo Carmichael in EastEnders for two episodes, where he informed Kat Moon about noise complaints at the Queen Vic. The situation escalated when Mo Harris drunkenly flirted with him and was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

McGregor also starred as Mr. Rudd in Call the Midwife, season 14 episode two. The period drama saw Dr Turner identifying the source of a sexually transmitted disease outbreak in Poplar. Last year, he appeared as Pecha Jansky in FBI: International and as Jamie in Here We Go.

Other Notable Roles

In 2023, McGregor starred in the Apple TV series Silo alongside Tim Robbins and Rebecca Ferguson, after a guest role in BBC's Casualty as Jez Abbot. His other television credits include Serial Thriller, Foyle's War, Our World War, Waking the Dead, and The Great Train Robbery. This is not his first Emmerdale role; he debuted as Matt Dunn in August 2012 and returned as a vicar for one episode in 2017.

Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX.
