Danni has spoken out after becoming the first contestant eliminated from The Great British Bake Off 2026. The HGV service centre administrator from Dorset was the first to leave the tent during Biscuit Week, which aired on Tuesday, September 29.
Danni joined 11 other bakers hoping to impress judges Nigella Lawson and Paul Hollywood, and hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding. All 12 bakers made it through the first episode of the new series after contestant Shannon was absent for some challenges due to medical issues.
Danni's Showstopper Mistake
Speaking on the spin-off show Second Helpings, hosted by Jon Richardson and Judi Love, Danni discussed her showstopper challenge. Her creation earned her a Paul Hollywood handshake, despite her describing it as “a laptop infected with LoveLetter.TXT.VSB which was a virus that went around the Windows95 era and she infected quite a few PCs by pretending to be somebody confessing their love to people and she would spread from then on.”
Recalling the creation, Danni said: “The thing is with LoveLetter.TXT.VBS by the way, I made that mistake that is my error and everyone on the internet will be yelling at me for it, I assume, she is an absolute pleasure to make for obvious reasons. It’s so fun to make every key.”
Tributes from Fellow Bakers
As her interview ended, Jon told Danni: “You brought so much joy to people watching, and you brought immense joy to the bakers you baked with.” He then shared a video package of messages from the other contestants, saying: “This is something new for you, something we’ve not done before, but we have a little package of messages just for you, from the people you inspired in the tent.”
The montage showed the other bakers praising Danni’s “wonderful attitude” and her ability to “make the whole room shine.” Danni also revealed a comment from Paul Hollywood, saying he was “super nice.” She added: “When I was messing up on everything, he was like, there’s actually a reason you’ve made it this far, so don’t be discouraged because you’ve had a few failures in the tent.”
Second Helpings Replaces Extra Slice
Channel 4 confirmed Extra Slice had been axed and replaced by Second Helpings earlier this year. Jo Brand said at the time: “I've loved every minute of Extra Slice. The bakers have been brilliant, talented and remarkably calm for people whose pork pies are being discussed on national television. And working alongside my TV husband, Tom, has obviously been a joy.” Tom added: “I have loved working with the team and with the kindest person in television, Jo Brand.”
