Former Love Island winner Dani Dyer, 29, suffered a nosebleed during filming of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins after being punched by Married At First Sight star Jessika Power. The incident occurred during a Milling task, where contestants go face-to-face in a fight. Despite the injury, Dyer continued with the challenge unbothered.
The new series of the gruelling Channel 4 show features 14 British and Australian celebrities competing in north Africa under the direction of chief instructor Mark 'Billy' Billingham. Billingham expressed surprise at Dyer's resilience, stating: 'Little Dani Dyer surprised me. Very small girl. She was very timid at the start, lacked a lot of confidence... She was willing to give up, but found a second wind.'
Dyer, daughter of EastEnders actor Danny Dyer and wife of footballer Jarrod Bowen, credited her husband for encouraging her to train beforehand. She told The Sun: 'Jarrod told me to up my training before I went in. We went up to his family in the Midlands. I was training in potato fields with my dad, running up and down.'
Dyer admitted her family thought she was 'nuts' for taking part, but she wanted to test herself. She said: 'I've always been petrified watching it, but I never get to push myself out of my comfort zone... My dad thought I was absolutely nuts because he's not a fitness person at all.'
The experience taught Dyer that she is 'a lot stronger' than she thought, and helped her deal with insecurity about being liked. She added: 'I stick up for myself a bit more now. I’ve always worried what everyone thought of me.'
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins airs on Sunday 4 January at 9pm on Channel 4.
