Coronation Street star Olivia Frances-Brown has signed a new contract with the ITV soap, meaning she will play Jodie Ramsey for at least another year.
Jodie was introduced at the start of the year during ITV's Corriedale episode. She was in the back of Graham Foster's van and made her way to Weatherfield following the multi-vehicle pile-up. Viewers learned that Jodie is Shona Platt's sister, but she arrived on the cobbles with revenge in mind.
Jodie's scheming continues
When she's not focused on her revenge against Shona, Jodie meddles with other residents including Bernie Winter-Alahan, Brian Packham and Lily Platt. Although the storyline with Jodie, Shona and David Platt is set to take a big turn soon, the conclusion of Jodie's time on the cobbles is not on the horizon at the moment.
According to The Sun, Olivia Frances-Brown has signed a new contract with the ITV soap, meaning she will play Jodie for at least another year.
Olivia explains Jodie's motives
Olivia previously spoke about why Jodie is so convinced she needs to destroy Shona. She said: 'It's all about her warped mind.'
'Jodie has convinced herself that David symbolises her potential for future happiness,' Olivia explained. 'She's lost the plot a little bit and truly believes David is the answer to all her wants and needs – which obviously isn't reality! She's just completely hooked on that idea now.'
'She sees David as the answer to everything. She's convinced herself that if she gets him and takes over that life, she'll finally be content. Little does she know that probably wouldn't be the case at all.'
Jodie's childhood grudge
Jodie hates Shona for leaving her at the mercy of their unstable, toxic dad Doug when she was a child. Shona was a pregnant teenage mum desperate to escape, but Jodie is not interested in excuses.
'She practically worships Shona,' Olivia shares. 'So much so that they've got matching tattoos. But those feelings are mixed with animosity that comes from childhood abandonment.'
'Jodie idolises Shona so much that she literally wants to step into her shoes, take over her life and know what that feels like,' Olivia explains. 'By taking over David, the house, the role with Harper – she genuinely wants to know how it feels to be Shona.'
'She loves her sister, but she wishes Shona had treated her differently throughout her life. There's a deep need to get her own back and have some sort of revenge. As much as she cares about their relationship, she's willing to do whatever it takes to get the happiness she feels she deserves.'
