A Coronation Street scene on Thursday teased that Ross Wilkes could be exposed over his lies about Cassie Plummer, with more than one character suspicious. The moment involving a photo could trigger alarm bells for someone other than Fiz Dobbs.
Ross's Cover Story Unravels
Ross was almost caught out after a clue about Cassie's fate emerged. Cassie left the show in tense and mysterious scenes weeks ago. While it's been suggested a future return could happen and Cassie isn't dead, Ross's shifty behaviour does not bode well.
Fiz Dobbs, the wife of Ross and Cassie's son Tyrone Dobbs, is already onto her father-in-law. She isn't sure why he's lying about the last time he saw Cassie, and where he took her in his car. The last viewers saw of Cassie was when Ross offered her a lift, locked the doors and sped off, having threatened her. Ross also had obtained a photo of the family that Fiz gave to Cassie, something she wouldn't just hand over.
Hope's Suspicion Grows
It's this photo that reemerged on Thursday, spotted by Cassie's granddaughter Hope Stape. Fiz and Tyrone were quick to confront Ross over this and what happened to Cassie, and he had his cover story ready. Fiz was clearly alarmed, just days after asking him about what happened with Cassie in the car. It seems she will continue to be suspicious as the storyline continues.
But she might not be alone. Someone else in the scene, and not Tyrone, was confused about the photo. Ross claimed Cassie had had enough of the family and wanted nothing to do with them. Fiz didn't believe this while Tyrone was annoyed, and Hope went about her day as normal. Ross looked like he was hiding something as he admitted he'd dropped Cassie off at the train station.
Fiz's Concerns and Hope's Potential Role
He said Cassie threw the photo at him, having enough of everyone, and that Ross "didn't know what to say" after. Moments later we saw Fiz trying to call Cassie. Tyrone wasn't even worried, having not heard from her since she left last week. Fiz added she had been messaging loads but got no reply, with her clearly concerned by this.
Tyrone pointed out what Ross had said and Fiz made it clear that that was Ross's version of events. Tyrone asked his wife why Ross would lie about it, but she was cut off before she could share what was bothering her. So yes, this could make it very clear that Fiz is the one onto Ross and might be the one who exposes him if she doesn't let this go. But what if the moment with the photo triggers alarm bells for someone else?
Hope has been trouble on and off for years, and if something is a miss she is often on the case. Surely she will be confused by her beloved gran Cassie has gone silent, and apparently wants nothing to do with her. Will she realise Ross is up to no good based on her mother's panic, and will she do some digging into Cassie's vanishing act? After all she managed to track down Tyrone's long-last father, so if anyone's gonna locate Cassie, it's Hope.
So maybe the scene with the photo and Ross's obvious lie will make her realise something is not right. Maybe Ross should watch out, as we wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of Hope.
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
