Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) is taking a huge risk in Coronation Street by trusting her new boyfriend Idris Nazir (Junade Khan), who is revealed to be a ruthless slum lord. Despite the red flags, Leanne has been oblivious, partly due to her recent troubles, including her adopted son Sam Blakeman's (Jude Riordan) ordeal with bully Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon).
Idris's scheme to buy Speed Daal
Idris is determined to add Speed Daal, the curry house where Leanne works, to his property empire. The problem is that the restaurant is owned by Alya Nazir (Sair Khan), who is revealed to be Idris's niece, as he is the product of an affair between his mother and Sharif, the ex-husband of Alya's gran Yasmeen (Shelley King). This makes Idris the half-brother of Alya's late dad Kal, who was Leanne's former boyfriend.
Leanne takes the revelation surprisingly well, amused by the fact that she has now been with two brothers. The drama has prompted Alya to sell her share of Speed Daal for £50k, and Idris plans to raise the funds.
Poker game with a gangster
Leanne offers to lend Idris £5k, but he still needs £15k. He decides to host a poker game at Speed Daal, inviting dodgy gangster Fiona Morley (Sara Poyzer) and roping in Ollie to play in return for a cut of the winnings. Idris plans to cheat by feeding Ollie instructions, but the game takes a dangerous turn when police officer Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) joins, and Fiona insists on doubling the stakes.
Leanne later discovers that Idris used Ollie as a pawn against a deadly crime boss to win money for the curry house. The next day, a frosty Leanne makes it clear Idris is not welcome in her restaurant, but he follows her, arguing that he cheated and her money was never at risk. Whether that is enough to earn her forgiveness remains to be seen.
