Coronation Street fans are predicting a major twist after newcomer Lucy, played by Anya Dewin, lashed out following her dad Richie's arrest for the murder of her mother Rachel. While some viewers believe Lucy is traumatised after witnessing the killing, others suspect she may be the real culprit.
Lucy's behaviour sparks concern
Lucy has been showing signs of trauma, including nightmares and sleepwalking, after her father was taken into custody. Richie claims he killed Rachel in self-defence, and Lucy has backed his story, telling Sally and Tim that Rachel had been tormenting him and hitting him for some time.
Tim Metcalfe found Rachel dead at the house, with Richie having blood on his shirt. Lucy is now staying with Tim and is not allowed to see her dad.
Fans predict a dark twist
Some fans have taken to social media to suggest that Lucy herself killed Rachel and that Richie is covering for her. One fan wrote: "Anyone else already thinking Lucy did it and Richie is just covering for her? That's quite a temper she has there."
Another agreed: "How do we know she didn't kill her mum? Quite a temper she's got there." A third added: "My guess is Lucy killed her mum and her Dad is taking the blame."
Others, however, pointed to Lucy's trauma as the reason for her behaviour. One fan said: "Richie killed Rachel and Lucy may have seen it. A big fight must have happened when he immediately got back. Lucy is having sleep terrors and also sleep walking due to the trauma."
Social media spoiler speculation
The speculation comes as fans were left convinced that a cast member had leaked a major spoiler on social media. Lucy Fallon, who plays Bethany Platt, posted a photo on Instagram with co-star Tina O'Brien, who plays her onscreen mother Sarah Platt.
In recent scenes, Sarah confessed to accidentally killing villain Theo Silverton and is now in prison awaiting trial. Fans speculated that the photo meant Sarah would be released soon, but it is not likely to be a spoiler and does not reveal her fate.
