Coronation Street fans have made their feelings clear after confusion surrounding the upcoming exit of Nina Lucas from Weatherfield, with many demanding a proper goodbye scene involving Carla Connor.
Nina, played by Mollie Gallagher, first appeared in the ITV soap in 2019 as the niece of Roy Cropper. She has been a regular fixture on the cobbles since, but upcoming scenes will see her leave after more than six years.
Exit announcement and stage debut
The departure was confirmed last month, when it was announced that Mollie will leave the programme to make her stage debut as Clarice Starling in the UK and Ireland tour of The Silence of the Lambs.
Speaking to Radio Times about the career shift, Mollie said it was not an easy decision. "Originally I really wanted to find a way to do both," she said. "It sounds ridiculous hearing it now, but I'd seen theatre runs where different actors take on different stints, but I realised pretty quickly that could never work."
Confusion during Monday's episode
During Monday's (August 17) episode, viewers saw Jodie Ramsey covering for Nina in Roy's Rolls. Jodie told customers Alya Nazir and Adam Barlow that Nina was 'living it up' in Whitby, with no prior explanation for her sudden absence.
Some fans initially thought this was Nina's exit, though there are still scenes ahead for the character before she leaves.
Fans demand Carla goodbye
Concerns have been raised that a goodbye with Carla Connor may be missing. @alohaimarie said: "Not having carla saying goodbye to nina is actually an insane choice." @sadlatimer replied: "Mind boggling. I’m hoping we at least get a mention of her having said goodbye."
@buffonias shared: "In my world carla says a very heartfelt goodbye to nina." @soulswarla added: "Carla is a huge part of Nina and her character development over the years!! It IS NOT right that she won’t be there, I’m heartbroken and if her leaving wasn’t bad enough… this just makes it 10x worse."
