Coronation Street's Jodie Ramsay, played by Olivia Frances-Brown, has reportedly signed a new one-year contract to remain on the soap, according to The Sun. The character, who has divided viewers since her debut, is set to stay on the cobbles for another year.
Character's arrival and drama
Jodie Ramsay made her debut in January during the Corriedale crossover episode. She then arrived in Weatherfield, where she revealed herself as the long-lost half-sister of Shona Platt, played by Julia Goulding.
Since then, Jodie has settled into life on the cobbles but has caused plenty of drama, including trying to seduce brother-in-law David Platt, played by Jack P. Shepherd. She also attacked Sarah Platt, played by Tina O'Brien, on the night of Theo Silverton's murder, and recently turned her attention to sister and new mum Shona, tormenting her with cruel mind games.
Fan backlash
The character has ruffled plenty of feathers since her arrival. On X, one person said: “Get rid of one of the best characters EVER (Debbie) played exquisitely by the brilliant Sue Devaney and they keep the worst character EVER for another year. Are they mad? Jodie has to GO!!! Read the room #Corrie no one likes her!!!”
Another added: “She is the worst character ever to grace the Cobbles. She needs to GO....” A third chimed in: “Anything but Psycho Jodie please!! The Witch of Weatherfield needs to go ASAP!” Someone else penned: “Possibly one of the worst characters to have ever come out of this show. The storyline is dreadful and quite frankly not believable in the slightest.”
Contract claims and actress's comments
It has been claimed by The Sun that actress Olivia has signed a new contract to remain on the soap for a year. A source told the publication: “Olivia has been a huge hit with the cast and crew as well as the bosses.” Reach PLC has reached out to Coronation Street for comment.
Meanwhile, recently talking about troublemaker Jodie, actress Olivia said: "Trouble follows her around like a bad smell. She is always caught up in the chaos. Whatever’s going on, if there is any chaos in the street, she’ll probably be at the heart of it. It’s the way that she is. It’s who she is. It’s the way she has learnt to deal with things. It’s the way she goes through life."
