George Shuttleworth made his return to Coronation Street on Friday night's episode. The undertaker, played by Tony Maudsley since 2020, has been in a relationship with Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) since splitting from Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) over a year ago.
Recently, George discovered that Christina had been taking out credit cards in the names of others living at number eleven to fuel her spending addiction. He decided to go on their planned holiday alone to think things through.
Emotional heart-to-heart
On his return to Weatherfield, Christina was tidying up, worried about what he might say about their future. After learning she had been drinking heavily while he was away, they had a serious conversation.
George said: "Chrissie. We probably need to talk. Come and sit down. Being away, I had a lot of time to think. You really upset me." Christina apologised immediately, already on the verge of tears.
George continued: "When I was a teenager, I had this mate. Barry. We were inseparable. We used to go everywhere together, riding around in his Mark II Cortina. Beige one. I always wanted to own one of them. Anyway, there was this group of lads, they had been giving me grief. And then one day I caught Barry talking to them about me.
"All my deepest and darkest. I'll never forget it. That moment when you know you've been deceived. It's like someone has pulled the rug from you. I felt sick. And now every time something like that happens, I get that same sick feeling in my belly."
He added: "You have to promise me, here and now, that you will never lie to me again. We have to be honest with each other, Chrissie. From now on."
Fans react to the scenes
Through tears, Christina said: "Oh, I love you. God, I love you." The pair then shared a lighter moment as George admitted he didn't really care for the last apple pie she made him, prompting laughter.
He promised: "I'm back now. Everything's going to be all right now, isn't it?"
Fans took to social media to praise the emotional scenes. One wrote on X: "George and Christina had the talk and back together!" with a GIF reading "YAY!" Another said: "Brilliant scenes between George & Christina in tonight's #Corrie."
A third wrote: "Not only are they such a charming and hilarious pairing, they’re so refreshingly real. When Christina started crying as George spoke, I just knew that they need each other. I love them your honour. We see a lovely side to Christina with George!"
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
