Coronation Street fans are convinced they've worked out what Kit Green is hiding on the cobbles after he took a mysterious phone call.
Just recently, Kit's girlfriend Sarah Platt was arrested and remanded in custody for the murder of Theo Silverton. Earlier this year, Sarah found herself in a confrontation with the sinister villain, during which she struck him with a metal pipe.
The blow caused Theo to fall from the scaffolding to the ground below, where he died from his injuries, leaving Sarah responsible for his death. In a panic, Sarah turned to her ex-partner Gary Windass to help cover up the crime, and he agreed.
Sarah's confession and Kit's fury
Since then, Sarah confessed to killing Theo Silverton following her arrest, yet she kept Gary's involvement out of proceedings, refusing to disclose that he had been an accomplice.
However, this has infuriated police officer Kit, who is in a relationship with Sarah, as he is well aware that Gary was indeed involved. After pressing Gary to come clean, the latter handed himself in to police and revealed everything, reports the Daily Star.
This has since complicated matters further, as Sarah was furious to discover that Kit had gone behind her back, and she made the emotional decision to end their relationship.
Mysterious call and drinking
Sarah told Kit that she loves him but for that very reason, their relationship is over, as she refuses to let him jeopardise his career on her behalf. In Tuesday and Thursday's episodes, audiences watched a devastated Kit receive a mysterious and seemingly serious telephone call from a woman, but he ended the call before hearing the complete voicemail.
Subsequently, Kit turned to alcohol, where he was shown drinking heavily in the Bistro and Victoria Gardens, sparking worry among local residents. Tuesday's episode concluded with Kit returning the woman's call, leaving a message in which he confirmed his name and said he would be there.
Fan theories
Taking to social media, audiences have been speculating about what Kit is concealing, and some soap fans have a devastating theory.
One viewer said: "Is Kit sick? The person referred to him as his full name then when he called back it was a business with opening hours. Him saying he'll be there could be him confirming an appointment? I get the vibe he may have been drinking to avoid more than just his breakup with Sarah!"
To which another account replied: "I think it will be to do with Paul and the MND perhaps he needs a test and he is nervous. I honestly think this is just an excuse for him and Bethany to get closer."
Elsewhere, a different fan put: "I think there's more to it but not sure what. Sarah only broke up with him the day before and he seemed a mess so doubt he'd have had time to apply for a new job in that space of time. Maybe he's ill and that's another reason he's drinking. Seemed official to call him Christopher and not Kit or DC Green."
