Coronation Street fans believe Todd Grimshaw could be set for a heartbreaking new storyline, after spotting clues in recent episodes of the ITV soap. Viewers have predicted that scenes showing the character constantly getting drunk could signal what lies ahead.
Todd is clearly spiralling after months of turmoil. He had been in an abusive relationship with his partner Theo Silverton for months, until he found the courage to leave. This nearly cost him his life when Theo brutally attacked him.
Prior to this, Todd had planned to leave Theo in January with the help of his friend Billy Mayhew, who had uncovered the domestic abuse. But Theo silenced Billy by leaving him to die after a car accident.
Truth comes out after worrying signs
It was only when Todd's worried loved ones picked up on some worrying signs that the truth about Todd and Theo came out. Theo was then killed by Sarah Platt in a showdown, meaning Todd did not get justice for his abuse ordeal.
With Sarah now in prison, and Theo and Billy dead, Todd is struggling to get back to reality. He has been isolating himself and lashing out at those close to him.
He has been drinking quite a bit, as noticed by viewers, and is very clearly struggling to process and cope with what has been a horrific year for the character. Now, fans think as Todd continues to push away his friends, he might be headed for a dark battle with alcoholism.

Fans have wondered if the scenes of him drinking are a hint that Todd is using alcohol to cope, or to cover up his problems. They now fear this is about to become a huge and devastating storyline for the character, possibly exploring Todd becoming an alcoholic.
Taking to social media, one fan said: "Potential drinking problem ahead for Todd?" as another noted: "Todd is drinking a lot." A third fan posted: "Todd is becoming an alcoholic."
Another viewer said: "Todd had been drinking a lot lately," while a final theory read: "I think he's in so much turmoil he can't cope and is lashing out. Not saying his behaviour is ok, but he's spiralling and on self-destruct maybe, losing Billy, the abuse, Theo's death, Sarah in prison.
"I saw a few predictions that the constant drinking could be a sign of an alcoholism storyline coming. I did wonder this myself with him being in such a dark place and do think it's a possibility they will go this way, especially as he seems to be isolating himself."
