Kev Riley, known to fans as 'whisk man' after his viral moment on Come Dine With Me, has revealed he was punched by a stranger who recognised him from the show.
Viral whisk moment
Riley appeared on the Channel 4 show in 2013. While preparing a dessert, he put a hand whisk in his mouth to taste the ingredients. The clip went viral, turning him into an online sensation dubbed 'whisk man'.
Speaking to Buzz Bingo, Riley said most encounters have been positive, but one was not. He recalled: "Yes, people recognising me behind a bar and, for example, at a restaurant I've been to, I was served whisks instead of cutlery. Not much negative. I have had one punch."
The punch and other offers
He described the incident: "There was no reason behind it; the person just said, ‘Are you the guy from Come Dine with Me?’ I said yes, then he punched me. But apart from that, I've not had anything negative. It's all been fun."
Riley also mentioned TV appearances and adverts that followed his fame. He said: "I've done a couple of TV things. I did Rob Beckett's programme. I did a TV show where I had to be a mystery guest, and people had to guess where I was from."
Netflix call
He added: "I’ve done an advert for Ritz Crackers and one for Dash Water. But to be honest, I'm not doing anything else in regard to it unless it's paid."
Riley also revealed Netflix contacted him about using his image. He said: "Netflix called me because they needed my permission to put me on the tile where you select the programme. They wanted to put my image on there. It must have had something to do with the fact that it had been over 10 years since they had to ring, because before, they just did it without asking. But when it came around to the anniversary of 10 years, they started to ring me and ask me if they could use my image."
Come Dine With Me airs weekdays at 6:30pm on Channel 4.
