In a major blast from the past, reality TV personality Charlie Frederick has reportedly signed on the dotted line for Love Island: All Stars. The 29-year-old is poised for a dramatic return to the iconic villa, eight full years after his fleeting and somewhat awkward appearance on the main show.
From Brief Stint to All-Star Comeback
Charlie first entered the public eye on the 2018 series of the ITV2 dating phenomenon. His time in the sun was short-lived, however, as he was coupled up with Hayley Hughes for just a matter of days before being unceremoniously dumped. Since then, he has also graced the screens of Made in Chelsea as best friend to Sam Holmes.
Now, show bosses are said to have successfully persuaded him to join the spin-off series, which reunites some of the most memorable contestants from the show's decade-long history. "Charlie’s been in the gym nonstop since he spoke to bosses about returning to the show," a source told The Sun. "He went too early when he was on the 2018 series, the first time – this time he wants to find love!"
A History of Frosty Relations
Frederick's previous villa exit was far from smooth. After the show, he suggested he would have gone further had he not been paired with Hayley, comments she later described as "bitter". The tension between them became painfully public during a joint appearance on ITV's Lorraine.
The atmosphere was so icy that the pair refused to sit together. Charlie admitted at the time, "We’re fine, we're just frosty cause I’m a bit gutted to be honest... I’m bitter and angry, not to her; I can't hold a grudge. It is what it is." Host Lorraine Kelly even jokingly told him to "go away" so Hayley could enter the studio separately, with Charlie calling the whole encounter "so awkward".
Reflecting on their brief coupling, Hayley said, "Maybe near the end, I was a bit cold. I think that is something I need to work on. If I’m not interested in someone or can't see it going any further, I pull away." Following his split from Hughes, Charlie dated Instagram model Natalie Clowes.
All Stars Shake-Up and Other Returning Faces
The upcoming series marks a significant format change. Singletons will head to South Africa for a six-week stint, one week longer than previous All Stars editions. The show's creative director, Mike Spencer-Hayter, confirmed the renewal, stating the spin-off has "quickly established itself as a stand-alone hit".
Charlie is not the only Islander being lined up for a return. Insiders suggest a host of other fan favourites and controversial figures are in talks, including:
- Yasmin Pettet: The bombshell is said to be in early talks following her split from Jamie Rhodes.
- Ciaran Davies: The series 10 runner-up, now single from Nicole Samuel, is in early negotiations.
- Jess Harding: The series 10 winner is reportedly also lined up for the South Africa competition.
- Alima Gagigo & Andrada Pop: Both recent series 12 stars have been approached by producers.
The second series of Love Island: All Stars aired earlier this year and was won by Gabby Allen and Casey O'Gorman. With fresh feuds, old flames, and a longer run in the sun, the third series promises even more drama when it lands on screens early next year.
