The BBC has released the first-look trailer for the second series of The Celebrity Traitors, which features a new A-list cast. The show returns to BBC One and iPlayer later this year.
New cast revealed
Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Amol Rajan, Bella Ramsey, James Acaster, James Blunt, Jerry Hall, and Joanne McNally would be participating. Also accompanying host Claudia Winkleman in the Scottish Highlands are Joe Lycett, Julie Hesmondhalgh, King Kenny, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Maya Jama, Michael Sheen, Miranda Hart, Myha'la, Professor Hannah Fry, Richard E. Grant, Rob Beckett, Romesh Ranganathan, Ross Kemp, Sebastian Croft and Sharon Rooney.
The first season of the celebrity edition was won by Alan Carr, whose betrayal and backstabbing captured the nation's attention. Now, a fresh group of stars are taking on the ultimate game of trust.
Trailer highlights
In the first-look trailer, Winkleman wears a ruffled collar in another of her signature iconic looks. She stands in a church looking out at the celebrities seated in the pews. She requests "a moment of silence for the celebrities gathered today," before adding: "Thoughts and prayers." As she leaves them waiting for their challenge, she adds: "Who doesn't love a dramatic exit?"
The BBC has teased a "never seen before" moment taking place in season two. Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, BBC's Director of Entertainment Ed Havard said: "Things happen that you didn't think could happen on Traitors and have never seen before."
What to expect
BBC director of content Kate Phillips also commented on the upcoming series. "When I watched this series I really wanted to step in and go 'no one's actually been murdered!' I don't want to give too much away but there are tears. They are fully invested," she said. "I can't stop thinking about it - I'm watching the episodes at the moment. The paranoia is off the scale. These celebrities, we don't pay them a lot of money to do this, they do it because they want to play the game."
She added: "Now there's a lot of referencing previous series - 'ah, but a Traitor would do that'. Or literally someone touches someone's arm and they say 'I think I've just been murdered'. It's just like - calm down! It's very entertaining to watch."
