Bradley Walsh recently visited a pub in Wiltshire during a break from filming his new series, Out of This World. The 66-year-old Chase presenter stopped by The Crown Inn in Broad Hinton, where staff had mixed reactions.
While some employees recognised him immediately, the pub's manager, Erin Williams, admitted she had no idea who he was. Having grown up in South Africa, she is not familiar with many UK celebrities.
Honest admission
Speaking to the Gazette and Herald, Williams said: 'The customers and the other staff all recognised him straight away and Kate, who does our social media, said, 'Oh my God, can you believe he's here?' But I'm South African so I didn't have a clue who he was.'
She added: 'He posed for a photo with us and I said to him, 'I'm so sorry but I don't know who you are'.'
Bradley's response was perfect: 'He laughed and said, 'That's okay, I don't know who you are either'.'
New spin-off show
Walsh is currently back on screens for The Chase Around the World, a new six-part spin-off. In the first episode, teams raced through Rome, Italy, answering quiz questions and puzzles. The last team faced Anne Hegerty and Mark Labbett.
The competition continues across four more countries. Episode two takes place in Barcelona, Spain, where successful teams will take on Jenny Ryan and Darragh Ennis.
Teams that answer correctly race across the city to reach Bradley at the finish line. The last team must face a head-to-head with the Chasers. If they win, they join the remaining teams; if not, they head home.
Bradley said of the new series: 'I would describe it as The Chase... but around the world! It’s out and about. It was very different doing it on location, in these incredible places, instead of being in a studio. I’ve been locked in Elstree Studios for 17 years!'
The Chase Around The World continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
