Danni, a 25-year-old HGV service centre administrator from Dorset, became the first baker eliminated from The Great British Bake Off during Biscuit Week. The episode, which aired on Channel 4 on Tuesday (September 29), saw judges Paul Hollywood and Nigella Lawson set challenges including American-style cookies, iced gems, and visually striking biscuit mosaics for the showstopper.
Emotional Farewell
After being told she was leaving, Danni stood up and took a bow as her co-stars applauded. In her exit speech, she said: “Thank you so much. It’s been so lovely! I'm really happy that I was the first one out, because I know everyone in there is more skilled than me. But I think I've learned something about myself, which is that in the right circumstances, I can make quite a few friends!”
Danni added: “Finding love in a group of strangers, that’s just beautiful. There are people who do appreciate me, and can appreciate you and will be your friend.” She also remarked: “Of all the bakers there, I was easily the weakest, which isn’t bad at all – it means I have 11 other people to bug about baking questions now whenever I want!!!”
Co-Stars and Fans React
The speech moved co-star Clara to tears, and fans took to social media to share their reactions. One person on X said: “Danni showed how to leave with class and dignity.” Another penned: “That exit speech broke my heart a little bit.” A third echoed: “Danni might not have been the best baker but I saw myself in them, I'll miss them in the tent.” A fourth added: “Oh Danni. You are a fabulous individual and it has been a delight to have you beamed into my front room, albeit too briefly. Onwards, and most definitely upwards.”
Star Baker Crowned
Meanwhile, Tom, a hairdresser from Yorkshire, claimed the coveted star baker title after producing the finest iced gems of the week to top the technical challenge. His showstopper did not go according to plan, reducing him to tears, but the judges still crowned him star baker. The Great British Bake Off airs every Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
