Ally McCoist urges Celebrity Traitors producers to sign him up

Rangers legend Ally McCoist has issued a come-and-get-me plea to the producers of Celebrity Traitors, saying he would "absolutely" love to take part in the hit BBC show. The 64-year-old, who retired from playing in 2001 and now works as a pundit for TNT Sports and talkSPORT, has previously turned down offers to appear on other reality shows.

McCoist's plea to Celebrity Traitors

Speaking to talkSPORT Bet, McCoist said: "Would I go on Celebrity Traitors. Aye, absolutely. The family and I love watching it. My only issue would be keeping a straight face, but if Alan Carr can manage it, there's hope for the rest of us! So this is my come-and-get-me plea to Celebrity Traitors, I'm when you are."

The former striker has come close to appearing on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here on three occasions, turning down the show in 2019, 2022 and 2024. Explaining his 2022 decision, the father-of-five said: "I'm not a fan of cockroaches."

Family reactions to reality TV snubs

McCoist revealed that his wife Vivian and their children were so upset when he declined the 2019 offer that they stopped speaking to him. He said: "The kids aren't talking to me at all. The younger ones would love it and the older ones would love it as well. They are going to school and they are getting it off their pals."

After Harry Redknapp won the show in 2018, McCoist added: "My wife is not giving a monkey's about me eating spiders and earwigs, she is just wanting a two stretch in that Versace hotel. It's the biggest thing we watch as a family, it's brilliant entertainment. Harry was fantastic last year."

Interest in Celebrity Hunted

McCoist also expressed interest in Channel 4's Celebrity Hunted, where contestants try to evade capture for 14 days. He said: "Celebrity Hunted is when they drop you off somewhere and then you're off and running and they try and track you. I would love that. I would be right up for it. I can't tell people my strategy on air but I think I would be alright."

The new series of Celebrity Traitors starts this week, with 21 celebrities competing to win £100,000 for their charities. Comedian Alan Carr won the first series as the last remaining Traitor, securing £87,500 for Neuroblastoma UK. This year's contestants include Rob Beckett, Romesh Ranganathan, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Leigh Anne Pinnock, Michael Sheen and Richard E. Grant, with the action taking place at Andross Castle in Inverness.
