Alan Carr sends BBC contestant 'home' after cheeky name joke

Alan Carr jokingly told a BBC contestant to go home after she made a cheeky on-air remark during Saturday night's episode of Picture Slam.

The quiz show, which aired on BBC One on August 22, saw six contestants competing in a frantic game where teams must name a series of pictures - from famous faces to products and logos - to build their prize pot.

Among this week's contestants were mum and daughter Venice and Sat, Bristol duo Tierney and Hannah, and married couple Mark and Glenn from Lisburn.

A name that sparked laughter

During the contestant introductions, Alan was struck by Venice's name and asked about its origins. He said: "Venice, that's such an interesting name. How did you come to that?" To which Venice's mum, Sat, confessed: "We just liked the name."

The comedian then shared a playful fact, revealing: "Do you know, Alan in Greek means 'handsome?'" Sat was quick to reply, saying: "I can see why." But it was Venice's light-hearted response that left the contestants in laughter.

She joked: "You sure they got that right?" Alan hit back with: "And Venice and Sat are going home now," before adding: "I'm joking, I'm joking."

Winners and upcoming episode

The Wolverhampton duo actually ended up being the strongest players, taking home an impressive £2,900. Colleagues Tierney and Hannah were the first pair to get kicked out of the competition, followed by spouses Mark and Glenn.

New contestants will try their luck in an upcoming episode of the gameshow, airing on BBC One next Saturday (August 29) at 6.30pm.

When asked why he thinks the show is so popular, host Alan said: "I think it's perfect family viewing. A lot of people have said to me they can sit down with the whole family and enjoy it together.

"There are questions from the 60s all the way up to 2026. You'll probably get your gran shouting answers out, and then you'll get a five-year-old shouting answers out."

Alan Carr's Picture Slam is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
