BBC Scotland's broadcasting services have returned to normal after a fire caused the evacuation of its Pacific Quay headquarters in Glasgow on Monday morning.
Early Morning Evacuation and Fire Response
The incident began when fire alarms sounded at the building just before 6:30am, prompting staff to leave the premises. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the blaze at approximately 7am.
Firefighters discovered a fire involving an air conditioning unit in a plant room area. They worked quickly to contain and extinguish the flames, with the fire service confirming the blaze was put out by 9am. Crews had left the scene by 10am, allowing employees to return to the building.
Broadcasting Disruption and Resolution
The fire caused significant disruption to BBC Scotland's output. BBC Radio Scotland's Breakfast show was taken off air following the outbreak, with listeners instead hearing a broadcast from Radio 5 Live.
Footage shared online by the broadcaster earlier in the day showed visible flames and smoke coming from one of the upper floors of the Pacific Quay complex.
Official Statements Confirm Safety
A spokesperson for BBC Scotland provided reassurance, stating: "BBC Scotland’s Pacific Quay centre was evacuated this morning after a fire in a plant room area. The blaze was contained, and we’re grateful to the emergency services for their swift response. All our colleagues are safe and well, and our services are now back on-air."
The spokesperson also thanked audiences for their patience while regular programming was restored. A spokeswoman for the fire service confirmed there were no casualties reported from the incident.
With the emergency over and the all-clear given, BBC Scotland's regular programming has now fully resumed, marking a swift recovery from the unexpected morning event.
