Fan Jailed After Stage Invasion at Wicked Premiere
An Australian man has been sentenced to jail after he breached security and grabbed pop star Ariana Grande at a high-profile film premiere. The incident, which left the singer visibly shaken, occurred last Thursday at the Wicked: For Good premiere in Singapore.
The Incident and Immediate Aftermath
Johnson Wen, a 26-year-old from Australia, jumped over a barricade and rushed towards the singer. Footage from the event clearly shows the moment he made contact with Grande before her co-star, Cynthia Erivo, swiftly intervened to pull him away. The quick actions of Erivo were praised by onlookers, while Grande appeared understandably distressed by the unexpected and frightening encounter.
Wen subsequently pleaded guilty to a single charge of being a public nuisance for his actions. The case was heard at a district court in Singapore, where the full details of his behaviour were laid bare.
A History of Disruptive Behaviour
Prosecutors in the case revealed that Wen is known as a 'serial intruder'. They detailed his habit of deliberately crashing high-profile events and then posting videos of his exploits online. This was not an isolated moment of poor judgement, but part of a pattern of attention-seeking behaviour.
During sentencing, District Judge Christopher Goh was highly critical of Wen's actions. The judge stated that the defendant had thought only of himself and had shown a complete disregard for the safety and well-being of others present at the event.
The Legal Consequences
As a result of his guilty plea and his history of similar conduct, Johnson Wen was sentenced to nine days in jail. The ruling was delivered on Monday, 17th November 2025. This case highlights the serious legal repercussions that can follow such security breaches at major international events, especially when they involve physical contact with performers or celebrities.
