Sarah Ferguson's Global Hideout: From Swiss Clinics to UK Sofa Surfing
Sarah Ferguson, the former Duchess of York, has reportedly returned to the United Kingdom after several weeks abroad, with close friends speaking out about her current state of turmoil. The disgraced royal has not been photographed in public for five months, since fresh revelations about her relationship with Jeffrey Epstein were released, sparking widespread public outrage.
A Discreet Return to British Shores
Ferguson was last publicly seen on September 25, 2025, being driven out of Royal Lodge in Windsor. She is also said to have made a brief, unphotographed appearance at her granddaughter Athena's christening at St James's Palace on December 12. As public fury over her Epstein connections intensified last month, Sarah reportedly fled overseas, but has now returned to hide out in the UK.
A friend revealed that Ferguson has become 'paranoid' her location will be discovered, leading her to constantly move between safe houses. 'She notifies friends of her last location only once she has safely moved on to the next. She wants to avoid being photographed,' one source told the Daily Mail.
International Wellness Retreat and Family Connections
Recent reports indicate that shortly after Christmas, Sarah checked into one of the world's most expensive wellness clinics. She allegedly booked a stay at the £13,000-a-day Paracelsus Recovery Clinic in Zurich, Switzerland, remaining there until the end of January. A Swiss source commented: 'She always feels at home at Paracelsus, and knows she'll get love and attention there, as well as expert health treatment when she's feeling at her most vulnerable.'
This was just one stop in her international journey. Ferguson is also said to have spent time in:
- The French Alps
- The United Arab Emirates, where she reportedly reunited with daughter Eugenie
- Florida with son-in-law Edoardo Mapelli-Mozzi
- A French ski resort with friends
- Switzerland again for Eugenie's half-term ski holiday in Gstaad
Mental Health Concerns and Financial Pressures
A friend of Sarah's recently spoke about her wellbeing, stating: 'She feels deeply depressed and that the world is out to get her. She is very, very down. Some people, including Sarah herself, are worried for her mental health.' However, the friend added that Ferguson doesn't appear to feel remorse for what has happened, but simply wants the situation to disappear so she can resume her life.
Financially, Ferguson faces significant challenges. Following Andrew's eviction from Royal Lodge, she is effectively homeless. With an estimated net worth of just £752,000, she would struggle to afford property in Windsor, where terraced houses sell for over £800,000. This has reportedly led her to tell friends: 'I need to get back to work. I need money,' as she scouts for a new PR team to orchestrate a comeback.
Future Prospects and International Options
Sarah's future remains uncertain, with many experts believing she may eventually settle abroad to escape the public furore in Britain. Royal author Andrew Lownie suggested: 'In Britain, neither Sarah nor Andrew will be socially accepted again, whatever they try to do or wherever they go. But in the Middle East, no one will care about what they have got up to.'
Lownie added that despite losing her official title, Ferguson would still be treated as royalty in certain international circles, where wealthy individuals might be willing to bankroll her lifestyle without concern for her past associations.
