Television presenter Nick Knowles has delivered a powerful response to an online troll who body-shamed him following his appearance on a Children In Need special last week.
The DIY SOS Star's Powerful Clapback
The 63-year-old DIY SOS host appeared on the charity special to help transform facilities for The Joshua Tree, a childhood cancer charity, in what became one of the programme's most challenging builds to date. However, one social media user chose to focus on Nick's appearance rather than the charitable achievement.
The troll shared an image from the show featuring Nick and his team wearing purple high-vis jackets and joked: 'Nick Knowles ate Pudsey!' in reference to the Children In Need's iconic teddy bear mascot.
Rather than ignoring the comment, Nick revealed this wasn't the first time this particular individual had targeted his family. The presenter disclosed that he had previously reported the social media user to her employers after she trolled his wife Katie during a serious health crisis.
History of Malicious Trolling Revealed
Nick penned a direct response to the troll, writing: 'I know you - you were trolling my wife when she was ill... We reported you to your employer now you've watched a show about building a place for a children's cancer charity & decided to go for me being heavy.'
He continued with genuine concern: 'Do you think maybe you should get some counselling about this obsession?'
Katie had undergone a hysterectomy at just 35 years old, suffering life-threatening complications following the procedure. She had previously shared her health battle with followers, describing how she endured years of 'almost unbearable pain' that left her 'vomiting, curled up in bed and missing out on life'.
Charity Work Overshadowed by Cruel Comments
The cruel comments came despite Nick and his team delivering an emotional transformation for The Joshua Tree charity in Cheshire. The DIY SOS team completed the ambitious overhaul in just 12 days, expanding the premises to accommodate more families across the nation requiring support for children battling cancer.
While most viewers praised the star for his hard work and the emotional impact of the programme, the troll's comment prompted Nick to reveal their troubling history.
In a surprising twist demonstrating compassion, Nick later called for his 168,000 followers to stand down after many rushed to his defence. He wrote: 'Ok look - I really appreciate the support regarding the trolling of my wife and I but can we please keep responses civil...'
He added after reflection: 'After some thought I genuinely think there may be a mental health element at play here so please let's let the matter lie. Thank you.'
This isn't the first time Nick and Katie have faced online abuse during their relationship. The couple, who have a 27-year age difference, exchanged vows earlier this year during a lavish six-figure wedding at Braxted Park in Essex attended by celebrity guests.
Katie has previously hit back at critics who dubbed her a 'gold digger', telling MailOnline that such comments don't affect her as much anymore because she and Nick know they're untrue. She stressed: 'Nick works hard, he has what he has. I work hard, I have what I have and then we buy each other stuff.'
