Mickey Rourke has been evicted from his Los Angeles home after failing to pay nearly $60,000 in back rent, according to court documents. The Los Angeles County Superior Court ruled in favour of landlord Eric T. Goldie in an unlawful detainer case, granting him possession of the Drexel Avenue property.
The court ruled that the rental agreement was cancelled, the lease forfeited, and Rourke can no longer legally occupy the house. The claim was solely for possession of the home, not financial damages. The eviction follows a December notice demanding payment of $59,100 in back rent or vacating within three days.
Rourke's legal troubles came to light after a GoFundMe campaign appeared in early January, purportedly to raise the money and avoid eviction. The fundraiser raised $100,000 before Rourke denied involvement. In an Instagram video, he said, 'Somebody set up some kind of foundation or fund for me to donate money, like in a charity, and that’s not me... If I needed money, I wouldn’t ask for no fucking charity.'
Rourke added, 'Whoever did this, I don’t know why they did it, I don’t understand it. I wouldn’t know what a GoFund foundation is in a million years.' A person claiming to be an assistant to his manager appeared to be behind the fundraiser. Rourke called the situation embarrassing but said he would get over it.
