Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey has taken to social media to correct what he describes as a "misleading narrative" about his living situation, after recent reports claimed he was homeless.
Clarifying the Record
The House of Cards star, 66, addressed the controversy in a video shared on Sunday 23rd November 2025 via X (formerly Twitter). This came in response to an interview he gave to The Telegraph that was published under the headline "Kevin Spacey interview: Homeless, cancelled and crooning in Cyprus."
"I don't usually make it my business to correct the media. If I did, I wouldn't have time for much else," Spacey began in his video statement. "But in light of the recent articles claiming I am homeless, I feel the need to respond."
The actor emphasised that his response was directed not toward the press, but to the thousands of people who reached out offering accommodation or checking on his wellbeing after reading the original article.
The Original Comments and Context
In his initial interview with journalist Mick Brown, Spacey had revealed that he was "living in hotels and Airbnbs" and going "where the work is." He stated: "I literally have no home, that's what I'm attempting to explain."
The actor acknowledged his financial situation is "not great" and confirmed he lost his house because legal costs over the past seven years have been "astronomical." He explained: "I've had very little coming in and everything going out," though he clarified he never filed for bankruptcy.
However, in his clarification video, Spacey stressed that he never intended to compare his situation to those genuinely experiencing homelessness. "There are many people, as we all know, who are indeed actually living on the streets or in their cars or are in terrible financial situations - and my heart goes out to them," he said. "But it is clear from the article itself that I am not one of them nor was I attempting to say that I was."
Criticism of Media Coverage
Spacey didn't hold back in his criticism of The Telegraph's handling of the story, accusing the publication of undermining their own journalist's work with a "knowingly misleading headline for the sake of clicks."
The Independent has contacted The Telegraph for comment regarding Spacey's allegations about the headline choice.
The actor's career was derailed in 2017 when multiple men came forward with sexual misconduct allegations against him, which he has consistently denied. Since being largely exiled from mainstream Hollywood, Spacey has been working on rebuilding his career.
His latest project is a war drama titled "1241," directed by Dustin Fairbanks, which follows a wounded Revolutionary War soldier. The film also stars DJ Qualls and P.J. Marshall, though no release date has been announced yet.
Spacey expressed gratitude for the public concern generated by the original article, but felt compelled to set the record straight about his actual living circumstances and financial status.
